Educational Use & Safety

Dosage Calcs is an educational and mathematical tool. It performs calculations using values supplied by the user. It is not a prescribing system, and it does not determine whether a medication, order, or dose is clinically appropriate.

What the calculators do

You enter the ordered dose and the medication you have available. Dosage Calcs works out the amount mathematically and shows how it got there.

What they do not do

  • Diagnose any condition.
  • Recommend a medication or a dose.
  • Determine an appropriate dose for a specific patient.
  • Check whether an order is correct, safe, or appropriate for a particular person.
  • Account for age, weight, kidney or liver function, diagnosis, allergies, or interactions unless a specific calculator asks for a value and says how it’s used.
  • Decide whether a tablet can be split or a product can be measured a certain way.
  • Replace professional judgment, medication or product labeling, or institutional policies and procedures.
  • Replace a prescriber, pharmacist, or drug reference.

For real medication administration

Follow your facility’s policies, independent double-check requirements, and current drug references. Ask a pharmacist when something is unclear. A correct calculation doesn’t mean an order is appropriate.

Dosage Calcs should not be the sole basis for any medication administration decision. Before clinical use, you remain responsible for independently verifying the medication order, calculations, units, concentrations, routes, frequencies, product information, and applicable policies.

For students

Use the worked solutions to check your own work, not to replace it. Your course may have specific rules for rounding and showing work. Follow them when they differ from what you see here.
